Finally January’s over

February 1, 2010

Didn’t realise that it’s been so long since the last blog post. October 09 to be precise. since then we have reopened The Purple Room and made ourself at home in the new venue! I have to give big shouts to all the heads that  came  along in the large numbers to both the opening night and our New Years Eve party. The opening night with Bill Brewster was very special indeed. After months of planning and hard work, the new front door was opened to the public for the first time. The worries and ‘what if’ thoughts were soon put to rest when the returning crowd liked what was done to the place, even if there was still a smell of wet paint! The new entrance, stage, toilets and smoking terrace are all doing their jobs nicely! Its still not the finished product with little tweaks and minor changes still taken place, but it’s certainly a big improvement.
New Years Eve was once again the great event that its been for the past 4 years. The eclectic mix of Drogheda Ska/Reggae legends Trenchtown and Manchester’s Dj Will Tramp was a great combination with a great atmosphere from early in the night right through to the last bars of the Cheers theme tune!!

So that’s pretty much whats happened since the last post, and now to what’s coming up! External Sounds is back at the Purple room on Saturday 6th of February. For this event we are delighted to have NightFlight Dj’s Jimmy B & Louche taken to the Purple Room stage. Although this will be their first appearance at The Purple Room they are no strangers to the External Sounds crowd having played at our tent at Electric Picnic for the past two years. Their set in our tent at Electric Picnic 08 was one of my musical highlights of the festival so I’m really looking forward to this one. Support on the night is from External Sounds resident Rob Mullen. Rob will be doing a 2 hour warm up set. We are giving out free goody bags at the start of the night so get along early.
The following weekend the external sounds djs are going on a a wee trip to Manchester. We have 2 gigs and some serious vinyl shopping on the agenda. Friday 12th of February We are playing ‘Frietags’ at the newly refurbished Common in the Northern Quarter. Then on Saturday night we are playing downstairs at Centro on Tib Street.

We have recently added some new mixes onto our website. These include Groovement Soul djs & Bill Brewster LIVE sets from The Purple Room as well as Me & Rob Mullen’s set recorded live from the Boat Party @ Electric Elephant Festival last August.
Click onto http://www.externalsounds.com/live.html for the mixes.
