External Sounds @ The Cellars, Sat 4th Dec

November 30, 2010

External Sounds is back at the Cellars Bar for another subterranean shimmy this Saturday 4th of December. This month external sounds residents Tadhg Murphy & Andrew K are joined by Dj Saleh for the usual eclectic mix of Funk, Soul, Reggae, Disco and beyond.
This months headliner is External Sounds resident Tadhg Murphy. Classically trained at violin from the tender age of 7 years old, Tadhg only started Dj’ing less then 3 years ago but in that short time has taken to it like a duck to water.
A musical all rounder, he’s as comfortable playing Dubstep as he is Disco, Tadhg uses his vast knowledge of performing in front of large audiences that he has gathered during his classical career that has seen him tour Europe, North America & Asia, and play with artists such as Pavarotti, and Deep Purples John Lord, to name but a few.
The night starts a 9pm and we will have a late bar to allow us to party in to the wee small hours. Admission is free before 11pm and €4 after 11pm.

Choice Music Prize time again

November 17, 2010

by Jim Carroll – – Posted: November 17, 2010

Here are the dates for your diaries for the sixth Choice Music Prize event. The 10 albums on the shortlist for the Irish Album of the Year 2010 prize will be announced on Wednesday January 12 and the live event will take place at Vicar Street, Dublin on Thursday March 3.

The winning act will be selected at that event and will go home with a cheque for €10,000, courtesy of the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) and the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO).

The shortlist is selected by a panel of 11 men and women (yes, that’s one less than usual) who write about and/or talk about music for a living. These judges are currently figuring out which of the 200+ Irish albums released in 2010 (you’ll find a list here) will get on the shortlist and realising that you can’t get all of them on that list. As always, you’ll find out who the judges are when the shortlist is announced in January.

Winter is definitely here!

November 15, 2010

Gale force winds, Rain and subzero temperatures all mean winter is most definitely upon us. So it was good to find a subterranean hide away from the elements, in the form of the Cellars bar last Saturday night. This was the venue for another round of our 45 Shuffle parties, where the dj’s delivered another helping of choice cuts with extra portions of cheese served up on 7 inch plates!
The 45 Shuffle is a no holds barred musical mash up, with the audience hearing the dj’s play tunes that they might not usually get a chance to play, or better put, their street cred might not usually allow them to play!
The 1980’s seem to be the flavor of the day with songs from this decade making up the majority of the playlist. Artists such as The Cult, The Specials, Blamange, Sugar Hill Gang, all getting the makeshift dancefloor going!
Special thanks to our guest selectors on the night, Saleh & Emmie Lou, and of course massive thanks to everybody that came along and supported the night. we are currently putting the finishing touches to our December/Christmas events.News on these coming very soon.
I’ll leave you with the last tune of the 45 shuffle which was supplied by Emmie Lou.

The 45 Shuffle

November 5, 2010

External Sounds is taken our late night frolicking below the streets of Drogheda on Saturday 13th of November. We will be hosting a special subterranean shimmy in the Cellars Bar off Laurence’s Street in the town center.

Our djs will be playing from their collection of 7 inch records for another edition of our 45 Shuffle Parties.
Each of our djs will be sifting through their collection of old & new 45’s to bring you a night with …sounds from the 1950’s through to gems from today pressed to 7 inch vinyl. Our last 45 Shuffle was in Clarkes back in May, and if that crazy night is anything to go by this should be another night not to be missed.
If you have any old 45’s that you would like to hear played on the night, then dust off your old 7 inches and bring them along with you and we’ll give them a spin.

The night kicks off at 9pm with a late bar allowing us to party in to the wee small hours of the night. Admission is free before 11pm and €4 there after so get down early to party for free.
